Indonesian Teak Wood

Teak wood is wood that comes from teak trees. Teak trees themselves have the meaning of a type of tree that produces high-quality wood that has a large and straight trunk and wide leaves. Teak trees have slow growth, taking years to produce high-quality wood. So teak wood is included in the type of wood that is expensive and hard to find. Good teak wood usually comes from teak trees that are more than 80 years old.

The strong, durable and beautiful character of teak wood, and is very resistant to termites and weather makes it a first-class wood. Teak wood has characteristics of light brown, grayish brown, to dark reddish brown, on the outside the wood is white and yellowish gray which is strong and hard with a smooth texture and if sanded the surface will become slippery like oily and the circular patterns on the wood are clearly visible and produce a beautiful picture so that teak wood is a luxurious wood.

In general, teak wood is commonly used for furniture, carvings, harbor docks, rail sleepers, bridges, merchant ships and warships. Other names for teak wood are deleg, dodolan, jate, jateh, jatih, jatos, and kulidawa. In Indonesia itself, the most popular teak wood is Javanese teak because it has a smooth texture and its wood is stronger than teak wood from any other region.
